7th Grade Dance

In 7th grade dance, students continue to build upon the basics of dance learned in 6th grade (students new to dance in 7th grade will not be behind, but will require stronger focus to catch-up to peers). Students will focus on the performance quality of dance technique, expanding dance vocabulary, communicating and using critical thinking during choreographic processes, expanding history and culture of dance, healthful living, process of dance production, and connecting dance to other disciplines including technology.  Students who are in the semester course will be held to the same standards as the year-long students, but at a more exploratory level. These students have the ability to take dance in 8th grade at the semester or year-long level as well. The curriculum we follow is outlined by the state and national standards.  Students will learn all styles of dance (ballet, tap, jazz, hip-hop, ballroom, and various world dances) in addition to choreography, anatomy, history, and technology connections.
You don't have to be an expert to be in 7th grade dance, but you DO have to be willing to TRY every type of dance possible.  We are about making smart dancers, not just good dancers.
